Possible Solutions To Installing And Using BBM On Android 2.3 Gingerbread
Following the release of bbm across other platform(android and iOS), it has come to my notice that people are searching on how they can install and use BBM on android 2.3 Gingerbread.
I have also often read people requesting for tutorials on how they could use blackberry messenger on their android device running android 2.3.6 which is android gingerbread. If you happen to be in this category of people, I’d like to share some few things you might know or might not know.
First, BBM only works on android 4.0+ OS. What this means is, if your android is running on an android Operating System lower than 4.O, you cannot use BBM on the device.
How Do You Know Your Android Device OS?
Its simple. Simply navigate to settings » About » Scroll down and you should get all necessary information there. If your device states, Android OS : 4.0 or higher figure like 4.1, 4.2, 4.3 and the new android kitkat 4.4 then you are good to go with downloading, installing and using BBM on your device. But if your device states any figure lower than 4.0, you probably have an option.
Possible Solution To Installing And Using BBM On Android 2.3 Gingerbread
If your android device runs on an android operating system lower than 4.0 like the gingerbread 2.3 OS, you probably have three options.
1. Upgrade Your Device OS: Now, this is totally device dependent. Not all android devices can be upgraded. Although some can be upgraded, they can only be upgraded for example from android donut 2.1 to android 2.3 gingerbread and of course, some devices can be upgraded to 4.0 ice cream sandwich or 4.1 or 4.2 jellybean.
How Do You Know If Your Device Can Be Upgraded To Ice Cream Sandwich?
The best option will be asking your mobile manufacturer or possibly doing an exclusive research about your device to find out if that can be achieved.
2. Install Custom Rom: If your device cannot be officially upgraded based on my option in number 1, then the next line of action would be installing custom rom for your device.
Also note, not all device allow flashing and installing custom roms. If your device can allow installation of custom rom, then it would only make more sense to install custom rom with android 4.0 OS. Doing this will automatically qualify your device for BBM.
Please note that installing custom rom is totally your decision, as any problem encountered in the process or after the process is solely your responsibility. I personally would advice that you take precaution when doing this and remember to backup before moving on with this. If you aren’t sure of what you are doing, I would recommend you give your device to someone more skilled to help you fix this.
3. Download BBM For Android: While doing a research online, I came across a BBM apk file which was said to be working on android 2.3 gingerbread. I personally haven’t tried it hence I am not giving any guarantee to whether or not it does work on android 2.3 gingerbread but then, you can try it out and give feedback via comments.
There you have it buddy. I have been able to successfully outline some possible solution to you installing and using BBM on android 2.3 gingerbread, what’s your feedback on this?
